Minister Felipe Larraín departs for Davos this evening to participate in the World Economic Forum 2014

The meeting, which will be held this week in Switzerland, brings together the world’s major political leaders and economic authorities.

During the event, the Chilean Treasury Minister will meet with his counterparts from the United States, Peru, Mexico and Colombia. He will also participate in two public program forums, private sessions and bilateral meetings.

The Treasury Minister, Felipe Larraín, will depart for Davos, Switzerland to start a busy agenda of activities during the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

Arriving in Davos on Tuesday, Minister Larraín will participate in a series of sessions, while on Wednesday morning he has been invited as special guest at the “Towards Responsible Mineral Development” forum, which aims to help countries to develop their mineral resources within the framework of a socially responsible economy.

This mining forum will also feature the participation of Anthony Hodge, president of the International Council on Mining and Metals, along with authorities such as the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Bárcena; Ricardo Martinelli, President of Panama; and Yuriy Kolobov, the Ukrainian Finance Minister.

In the afternoon, Felipe Larraín will be a speaker on the “Latin American Competitivity Laboratory” panel before meeting with Peru’s Treasury Minister, Luis Miguel Castilla. Later he will participate in the Energy Community, a body that meets in Davos to analyze how global and regional changes are affecting the economic bases of the energy industry.

During the day, Minister Larraín will also meet with European financial entities and hold a series of other meetings.

On Thursday January 23, he will participate in a panel on the perspectives of emerging Asian markets, alongside prominent international figures such as Min Shu, Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund. He will then give a speech at the session on “Mining and Infrastructure, an Imperative Collaboration”; followed by a bilateral meeting with the United States Treasury Secretary, Jack Lew. Minister Larraín is also invited to a reception hosted by the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET).

Also on January 23, Felipe Larraín will be a speaker on a panel alongside authorities from the member countries of the Pacific Alliance, including the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos and Peru’s Treasury Minister, Luis Miguel Castilla. The session will be chaired by Alicia Bárcena, from ECLAC.

Afterwards, Minister Larraín will attend the “Latin America Looks Ahead” dinner. He is also expected to attend a panel on overcoming obstacles to the free circulation of capital, as a special guest.

On Friday morning, Minister Larraín will be a speaker on a panel about the role of financial services in society and will then lead a discussion at the “Ending the Supercycle?” forum. On Friday he will also attend the session on “Redefining Ageing”, followed by a bilateral meeting with the Mexican Finance Secretary, Luis Videgaray.

On Saturday morning, he will hold an informal meeting with economic authorities from the developed world. He leaves Switzerland on Saturday afternoon and is due to arrive back in Chile on the morning of Sunday January 25.
